A meeting is where the SCA members carry on the regular business of the local group. An event is a special gathering publicized in the kingdom’s newsletter to invite people from more distant groups. Participants are asked to make a reasonable attempt to wear medieval garb at events. Everybody has to start someplace and most people just beginning do not already have medieval clothing: Don’t fret, our shire has loaner clothing for beginners like you!
When you arrive at your first meeting or event, go up to someone and introduce yourself. Explain that you are new and ask who you can talk to about learning more about the group. Ballachlagan has a special person (known as a chatelain) to greet newcomers. Approach someone who is working on a project and ask about it. We are always glad to talk about what we are doing.
